Negros island: Over 75,000 family food packs at the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Negros Island Region (DSWD – NIR) field office are available for relief operations following the latest minor explosive eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on Friday night.
According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the Disaster Response Management Group stated that their field office has coordinated with local government units (LGUs) to assess whether assistance from DSWD is required. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure timely support.
In a report to Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Saturday, DSWD-NIR Regional Director Arwin Razo confirmed that no internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been recorded in localities affected by the eruption, such as La Castellana, Canlaon City, Murcia, La Carlota City, and Bago City.
DSWD Quick Response Teams are actively monitoring the situation and are in communication with LGUs to provide technical assistance and possible resource augmentation as needed. In addition to the prepositioned food packs, the NIR field office’s mobile kitchen, mobile command center, and water filtration truck are prepared for deployment at any time.
