Puerto galera: Following the state of calamity declaration in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended assistance to families affected by a water shortage caused by a months-long dry spell in the tourist-destination town.
According to Philippines News Agency, on orders of Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the DSWD Field Office MIMAROPA delivered 184 boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to families affected by the dry spell and water shortage in Puerto Galera. DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao highlighted the delivery in a news release on Wednesday, emphasizing that this initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directives to ensure no family goes hungry during calamity.
The relief distribution took place in Sitio Mulle, with residents from Barangays San Isidro, San Antonio, Poblacion, and Sto. Ni±o receiving food assistance from the DSWD's Field Office-MIMAROPA. The June 24 report from the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) indicated that PHP315,560 worth of humanitarian assistance was provided to the affected barangays.
Dumlao mentioned that the DSWD plans to meet with the provincial government of Mindoro to further assess the additional interventions needed by the 13 barangays affected by the dry spell.
