DSWD Continues Aid Distribution to Basyang-Hit Families

Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its concerned field offices, continues to provide hot meals and family food packs (FFPs) to families and individuals affected by Tropical Storm (TS) Basyang, a senior official said on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD's Disaster Response Management Group highlighted ongoing efforts to support residents still dealing with the aftermath of the storm. Despite the storm having passed, many individuals remain affected, particularly those with damaged homes or disrupted livelihoods. The department is committed to delivering essential supplies such as food to those in need.

In Northern Mindanao, DSWD personnel prepared hot and nutritious breakfast and dinner for 875 evacuees currently staying at the South 1-A Central School in Barangay Tubod, Iligan City. Dumlao noted that other field offices affected by the weather disturbance have also deployed mobile kitchens to prepare meals for internally displaced persons. The DSWD continues to distribute FFPs and ready-to-eat food (RTEF) boxes to provide immediate sustenance.

A total of 101,510 boxes of FFPs and 6,225 RTEF boxes have been delivered to disaster-hit families across various regions, including the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Negros Island Region, and Caraga. Dumlao also mentioned ongoing assistance to those impacted by the shear line in Bicol, where flooding has affected multiple areas.

The latest Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) report indicates that the DSWD maintains more than PHP4.2 billion worth of stockpiles and standby funds, with over 3.5 million boxes of FFPs prepositioned across the country.
