DSWD-11 to Disburse Cash Relief Aid to 30,000 Tricycle Drivers in Davao Region

Davao: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) will begin the regional payout of Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) for qualified tricycle drivers on Wednesday, an official said Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-11 Director Rhuelo Aradanas announced that the agency aims to assist 30,000 tricycle drivers throughout the region with a budget allocation of PHP150 million. Each beneficiary will receive PHP5,000 in cash aid to help manage the impact of rising fuel prices.

For the initial rollout, 14,670 tricycle drivers are set to benefit from the program, with the distribution per city as follows: Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) - 1,791; Panabo City - 3,443; Tagum City - 2,788; Davao City - 437; Digos City - 4,355; and Mati City - 1,856. Aradanas emphasized that this initiative is part of the national government's efforts to support drivers affected by the current fuel crisis.

The payouts are scheduled as follows: April 8 in Davao City at the Agdao Public Market; Tagum City at E-Park; Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) at IGACOS City Gym (April 8 to 9); Panabo City at Panabo City Gym; Digos City at Digos City Gym (April 8 to 10); and Mati City at Upper Bless Covered Court on April 14.

Aradanas clarified that local government units (LGUs) identified the beneficiaries, while DSWD is responsible for disbursing the assistance. He mentioned that those not included in the initial list might still benefit from a second tranche. To qualify, drivers must possess a permit and a valid driver's license, and they must present these documents along with a photocopy bearing three signatures during the payout.

The rollout of the cash aid for municipalities is set for April 16. Aradanas noted that there would likely be a second rollout for the cities, with funds already available even though the list and schedule are yet to be determined.

The CRA is part of DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, designed to help public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers cope with the effects of rising fuel prices and support their families' basic needs.
