Davao city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) has announced the successful turnover of PHP600,000 worth of livelihood projects through the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program. These initiatives, implemented in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, and Laak, Davao de Oro, are aimed at providing sustainable opportunities for Friends Rescued (FRs) and members of the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICC/IPs).

According to Philippines News Agency, the Tatag IP Farmers PAMANA Livelihood Association in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, received PHP300,000 in seed capital on September 15. This funding is designated for establishing a motor spare parts supply and vulcanizing service center business, providing a new income source for the 21 ICC/IP members involved, including FRs. A ceremonial rite was conducted to bless the enterprise, marking the formal commencement of their business activities.

In another project, the Bagong Laak Farmers PAMANA Livelihood Association in Special Barangay Talle, Kidawa, Laak, also received PHP300,000 in seed capital. This funding supports an agricultural and veterinary supply enterprise, designed to provide both livelihood opportunities and essential farming and livestock management supplies to the 17 FRs participating in the project.

The DSWD-11 emphasized that these projects go beyond financial support. They are crafted to enhance self-reliance, promote stable income, and encourage active participation in community development. The agency highlighted the importance of cultural sensitivity and community ownership to empower ICC/IP beneficiaries in leading their own progress.

Furthermore, through the PAMANA-Peace and Development Buong Bansa Mapayapa (PDBBM) program, affected communities continue to gain opportunities to improve livelihoods, enhance resilience, and contribute to peace and development in conflict-affected areas.
