Driver Faces LTO Suspension for Reverse, Counterflow Act in SLEX

Manila: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order against the driver and registered owner of a sedan caught on video reversing and counterflowing on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) without signaling.

According to Philippines News Agency, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered the issuance of the show-cause order after a viral video shared on the Facebook page "Camote Club PH" showed the sedan traveling on the second lane of the expressway toward Alabang-Zapote Road before suddenly reversing and maneuvering to the right.

The video showed the vehicle crossing the solid white line and counterflowing before proceeding toward Calamba and SLEX, without giving proper signal for the turn or change in direction.

Following an investigation, the LTO identified the driver and registered owner of the sedan, forming the basis for the order filed against them.

The driver and owner have been ordered to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division at a scheduled hearing and submit the required documents and sworn statements explaining why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and violation of signals on starting, stopping, or turning.

The driver has also been asked to explain why his license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

His driver's license has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension pending the investigation.

Two vehicles registered under the owner's name have likewise been placed under alarm status, barring them from any LTO transactions, including registration and renewal, until the case is resolved.

"Walang lugar sa ating mga kalsada ang mapanganib at iresponsableng pagmamaneho. Ang pag-counterflow, pagtawid sa solid white line, at pagmamaniobra nang walang wastong signal ay hindi lamang paglabag sa batas, kundi isang seryosong banta sa buhay at kaligtasan ng ibang motorista (There is no room for dangerous and irresponsible driving on our roads. Counterflowing, crossing the solid white line, and maneuvering without proper signal are not just violations of the law but a serious threat to the life and safety of other motorists)," Lacanilao said.
