Batangas city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to build a stronger bridge to replace the damaged Bridge of Promise in Batangas City. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, who inspected the bridge on Monday, said the measure is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to replace the bridge.
According to Philippines News Agency, the bridge serves as the main route for residents from Barangay Kumintang Ibaba to Barangay Gulod Labac and has already shown signs of deterioration. Secretary Dizon noted the bridge was originally constructed in 2009 as a temporary structure but has remained in use for 17 years.
Dizon also announced that the agency has requested PHP300 million for the 2027 budget to expand and strengthen the bridge, which will include additional lanes. "We will also add two more lanes, so from two lanes, it will become four lanes," he added.
