DPWH Completes Upgrade of Araneta Avenue’s Drainage System

Quezon city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished the upgrade of a much bigger drainage system along Araneta Avenue in Quezon City. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced that the expanded drainage system aims to alleviate flooding issues in the area during the rainy season. This project is a segment of the government's flood control initiative known as Oplan Kontra Baha.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Dizon highlighted the enhancements made to the drainage system, noting that its size is now three times larger than before. During a project inspection, he emphasized the urgency of the work, citing the President's directive to expedite completion before the onset of the rainy season in June. He assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure timely completion of these projects.

To address immediate needs, Dizon ordered the installation of mobile pumps while construction of the pumping station on E. Rodriguez Boulevard is still underway. He also mentioned the continuous dredging and cleaning efforts in the San Juan River as part of the flood mitigation strategy. The drainage expansion on G. Araneta has been completed on schedule, with the works on E. Rodriguez expected to be finished by May.

The rehabilitation project has been allocated a budget of PHP500 million.
