DOTr Orders Lifetime Ban Against SUV Driver Who Rammed Student in Rizal

Rizal: Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has mandated the permanent revocation of the driving license of an SUV driver who intentionally rammed a student on a motorcycle in Teresa, Rizal. The incident, which gained widespread attention on social media, has prompted swift action from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

According to Philippines News Agency, Lopez instructed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to locate the driver, aligning with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold accountable those drivers who pose risks to road users. Lopez emphasized that the driver involved does not deserve the privilege of driving on the roads, questioning the justification behind the driver’s actions even if there was a minor collision between the student and the vehicle.

Lopez also intends to support the victim’s family by providing legal assistance to pursue a case against the driver. He highlighted the driver’s age as a factor that should have guided more responsible behavior. The DOTr is working closely with the Philippine National Police to thoroughly investigate the incident.

The LTO has also been tasked with issuing a show-cause order to both the driver and the vehicle owner. A video provided by Visor to the DOTr revealed the SUV deliberately colliding with the student on two occasions, captured by CCTV cameras. In the footage, the student initially managed to stay on the motorcycle but was eventually knocked off, with the SUV dragging the motorcycle before coming to a stop.
