Pasay: Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has issued a warning to four bus companies operating along EDSA in Malibay, Pasay, for utilizing illegal makeshift terminals that are inadequately equipped for passengers.
According to Philippine News Agency, Dizon identified the bus companies as Philtranco, Mega Bus, Ten Ten, and RMB, criticizing them for leaving passengers without essential amenities such as chairs, comfort rooms, proper roofing, and electric fans. In a statement on Tuesday, Dizon expressed concern over the conditions at these makeshift terminals and emphasized that passengers are left in a ‘deplorable state’ despite paying regular fares.
Dizon has directed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to summon the bus companies and evaluate possible sanctions. He questioned the existence of these makeshift terminals given the availability of the Para±aque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), which offers proper facilities. He stated, ‘Meron naman tayong Para±aque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), bakit may ganito? Hindi naman terminal ito. Walang upuan, naka-tolda, walang CR Itong mga pasahero nagbabayad naman sila — regular fare. Hindi naman discounted ito. Hindi pwede ito.’
Furthermore, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to work closely with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine National Police, LTFRB, and Land Transportation Office to address the issue and hold the bus companies accountable. Dizon remarked, ‘Talagang winawasak ‘yung dignidad ng mga kababayan natin kapag ganito.’
The warning follows Dizon’s visit to the PITX and Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, also in Pasay, to prepare for the anticipated surge of passengers during the upcoming Holy Week break.
