DOTr Chief Assures Accessibility of New EDSA-Kamuning Footbridge

Quezon city: Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez on Thursday assured the public that the new footbridge in EDSA-Kamuning is accessible for all. In a media interview at the launch of the new footbridge in Quezon City, Lopez said the new structure is well-built and accessible to persons with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lopez emphasized that the construction adhered to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to fast-track infrastructure projects without sacrificing quality and within the allocated budget. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) press officer, Jane Deocampo, revealed that the new footbridge cost PHP87,326,815.10, coming under the initial budget estimate of PHP89 million.

The launch event was attended by President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Lopez, and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon. President Marcos expressed satisfaction with the improved infrastructure compared to the old 'Mount Kamuning' footbridge and promised to ensure the maintenance of its accessibility features.

DPWH Secretary Dizon highlighted that the new footbridge is a component of the broader EDSA rehabilitation project, offering a more convenient crossing experience to the Busway. He mentioned that this project is only the beginning of the ongoing improvements to the EDSA corridor.

The modernization of the EDSA Kamuning Busway Station includes a wider walkway and platform, fare matrix displays, an EDSA Busway site map, wayfinders, two manlifts for wheelchair users, and two elevators. Additional accessibility features comprise tactile tiles, enhanced lighting, modern railings, benches, and trash cans.
