Paris: The Department of Tourism (DOT) is intensifying its efforts to promote Sogod Bay in Southern Leyte as a global dive destination following its participation in Salon de la Plong©e 2026, a major diving exposition held from January 8 to 11 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
According to Philippine News Agency, DOT Eastern Visayas Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes stated in a press release that the international exhibition provided a strategic platform for the region to engage directly with the global dive market and attract more international dive tourists. Tiopes highlighted that this was the second time the region participated in Salon de la Plong©e, with the main objective to expand their reach into the dive market and increase arrivals of dive enthusiasts.
Key stakeholders from Eastern Visayas, including representatives from Sogod Bay Scuba Resort and Peter's Dive Resort, were present at the event. They interacted with visitors and shared firsthand information about the unique underwater attractions the region offers. Tiopes remarked that Sogod Bay's involvement in the expo emphasizes the region's dedication to developing sustainable and high-quality dive tourism, positioning the destination as essential within the Philippines' marine landscape.
The promotion took place through the DOT Philippines Pavilion, where Sogod Bay's marine biodiversity, coral reefs, and rich macro life were showcased. The DOT expressed optimism that the exposure gained in Paris will lead to increased international arrivals and enhance Sogod Bay's recognition as one of the Philippines' premier dive hotspots.
