DOT-Cordillera Sets Eyes on Foreigners to Hike Tourist Arrivals

Baguio: The Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is mounting promotional activities to lure more foreign tourists to visit the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the regional director of the DOT-CAR, Jovita Ganongan, stated in a phone interview that they participate in major local travel fairs organized by the DOT and private tour operators across the country. Additionally, the department is actively attending international travel fairs to promote the Cordillera on a global stage.

Ganongan emphasized that these international tourism marketing campaigns are designed to attract foreign tourists to experience the region's beauty and unique adventures. The Cordillera region is known for its diverse tourism offerings, which include creative, wellness, gastronomy, farm-to-table, cultural and heritage, weaving, mountain, sports and adventure, and golf experiences.

Records from DOT-CAR indicate that Americans lead foreign tourist arrivals in the Cordillera, followed by the French, Koreans, Canadians, Japanese, British, Chinese, Australians, Germans, and Israelis. In 2025, the region welcomed a total of 1,572,655 local tourists and 53,948 foreign tourists.

Last year, the Cordillera also saw a significant influx of 6.7 million same-day tourists, with the majority visiting Baguio City. Each local government is actively promoting its respective areas, especially given the ongoing challenges posed by high fuel prices, which have made travel difficult for many locals.

Ganongan highlighted the need to enhance tourism offerings by leveraging the unique aspects of each province to differentiate them from other destinations. This strategy aims to make the Cordillera a preferred choice for tourists.
