DOT and Emirates Airlines Partner to Boost Philippine Tourism

Manila: The Department of Tourism (DOT) and Emirates Airlines on Monday signed an agreement to enhance the Philippines’ visibility as a premier destination for tourists from the Middle East and Europe. DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco highlighted that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) allows both parties to develop promotional strategies targeting the Middle East, Mediterranean, and European markets.

According to Philippines News Agency, the MOU also provides additional air seats and options for the Filipino diaspora in this part of the world who wish to return and visit the country. The DOT and Emirates Airlines will co-promote each other’s projects through various media platforms to maximize outreach and engagement under the MOU.

Emirates Airlines Commercial Operations Far East Commercial Operations Senior Vice President Orhan Abbas mentioned plans for expanding flight routes and frequencies to key destinations in collaboration with relevant government agencies. “Emirates began serving the Philippines nearly 35 years ago, making it one of the longest-served destinations across our entire global network,” he stated. Abbas emphasized that the continued partnership reflects the strength and popularity of this Southeast Asian destination for leisure travelers, businesses, and entrepreneurs.

As of April 25, the Philippines has welcomed over 21,000 travelers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Since reopening its borders in 2022, the DOT has observed significant growth in tourist arrivals. Additionally, tourism revenues from UAE visitors have shown a promising recovery, indicating a bright future for Philippine tourism.
