Legazpi city: The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5), in collaboration with the provincial government of Albay, has announced plans to provide emergency employment to residents in local government units (LGUs) impacted by the ashfall from Mayon Volcano. This initiative aims to support the community through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program, offering employment opportunities to those affected.
According to Philippines News Agency, Imelda Gatinao, regional director of DOLE-Bicol, shared that the TUPAD program will offer 10 days of employment to qualified beneficiaries. Currently, DOLE-Bicol staff are conducting beneficiary profiling in the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan. Discussions are also underway with Albay Governor Noel Rosal regarding the town of Daraga, and coordination efforts are ongoing with Oas and Ligao City, as these areas have also been affected by the ashfall.
The program is expected to benefit over 20,000 individuals, with total assistance surpassing PHP110 million. Gatinao emphasized that the program will involve activities such as clearing operations, community cleanup, and rehabilitation efforts in the barangays. These efforts not only provide employment but also contribute to the cleanup of the affected areas.
Beneficiaries will receive compensation for 10 days of work at the regional minimum wage of PHP455 per day. Gatinao assured that the implementation will commence promptly, either within the current week or by the following week.
Silverio Pielago, a councilor of Barangay Travesia, noted that the TUPAD program is anticipated to significantly support cleanup efforts. The barangay is actively coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure the successful execution of the program.
