DOJ’s Katarungan Caravan Serves Nearly 500 Navotas Residents Amid Landfill Fire Concerns

Navotas: The Department of Justice (DOJ), along with other key government agencies, has served over 500 Navotas residents through its Katarungan Caravan. In a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon interview over PTV4, DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez said the Navotas residents availed of the department's legal services.

According to Philippines News Agency, nearly five hundred residents of Navotas benefited from the project. Justice Secretary Fredderick A. Vida expressed gratitude to the local government unit of Navotas for its support in the success of the project. The caravan provided essential services, including the processing of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance, land title verification by the Land Registration Authority (LRA), and the victims' compensation program under the Board of Claims.

The DOJ has conducted the Katarungan Caravan for Navotas residents as smoke emissions from a burning landfill in the city have worsened local conditions, with air quality reaching unhealthy levels. A massive fire broke out at the landfill facility on April 10, affecting many communities in the area.

DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez further stated that the DOJ hopes that the burden experienced by the residents is somewhat alleviated by the programs to ensure real justice for all.
