DOH Reports 49-Percent Decrease in Fireworks-Related Injuries

Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported a total of 57 fireworks-related injuries (FWRI) from its nationwide surveillance, reflecting a 49-percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH's latest monitoring update revealed that the National Capital Region recorded the highest number of cases at 25. Other regions reported scattered incidents as communities marked the holiday festivities. Males aged 10 to 14 years were the most affected age group.

The top causes of injuries were identified as 5-Star, Kwitis, Boga, and Triangulo. The DOH reminded parents and guardians to closely supervise children and avoid the use of dangerous fireworks, while emphasizing its long-standing advocacy for safe community pyrotechnic displays as a means to prevent injuries.

The agency continues to urge the public to observe precautions ahead of New Year celebrations to prevent further cases and ensure a safer holiday season.
