DOH Launches First Mall-Based Wellness Clinic in Eastern Visayas

Tacloban: The Department of Health (DOH) has inaugurated its first mall-based wellness clinic in Eastern Visayas, strategically located at Robinsons North Tacloban. This initiative aims to provide more accessible health services to the public, with a particular focus on mallgoers. According to Philippines News Agency, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, along with local officials and representatives from the DOH regional office, led the opening ceremony. The Tacloban clinic marks the eighth wellness clinic of its kind in the country and is notably the first to be established inside a Robinsons Mall. In his address, Herbosa emphasized that the clinic's primary objective is to tackle prevalent health issues, including malnutrition, immunization gaps, HIV, road crashes, mental health concerns, and sexually transmitted infections. He highlighted the importance of reaching the youth, stating, "I noticed that many of our health problems such as almost all of these are problems affecting the youth. I asked myself: i f these are youth problems, where are the youth? They aren't in health centers. They're in malls." Situated on the ground floor of the mall, the clinic offers essential services such as body mass index assessments, healthy lifestyle counseling, family planning services, HIV screening, and mental health support. Additional specialized services will be provided by the Tacloban City Hospital every Tuesday, including medical consultations, selected laboratory tests for adults, obstetrics and gynecology consultations, ophthalmology and vision screening, and pediatric services. DOH Eastern Visayas Regional Director Exuperia Sabalberino noted that the facility enhances efforts to deliver free, safe, and community-focused healthcare services by positioning them in convenient and accessible locations throughout the region.
