DOH Investigates Vaccine-Related Deaths in Children

Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday began probing the reported deaths of children following the Phase 3 rollout of its Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH extended its condolences to the families of the deceased children and said it is coordinating with local government units and relevant agencies for the investigation. The DOH assures the affected families and the public that these cases are being taken seriously.

The agency noted that its probe into the Adverse Events Following Immunization involves reviewing clinical records, vaccination histories, laboratory test results, and other relevant information to determine the cause of death. The DOH emphasizes that reported serious or unusual events following vaccination are not automatically linked to the vaccine and must undergo thorough investigation by experts.

The public is urged to avoid speculating or sharing unverified information while the investigation is underway. Despite the ongoing probe, the DOH maintained that vaccines remain safe and effective against preventable diseases such as measles and rubella.
