Cagayan valley: The Department of Health (DOH) has been actively distributing free medicines and offering medical consultations in evacuation centers across the Cagayan Valley region in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Nando’s landfall on Panuitan Island, Calayan, Cagayan.

According to Philippines News Agency, a recent Facebook post by the DOH revealed that 17,583 individuals are currently sheltered in 286 evacuation centers throughout the region, receiving healthcare support from DOH teams. In addition to providing free medicines and consultations, the DOH is conducting nutrition assessments for children, blood pressure monitoring, first aid services, and distributing drinking water to those in need.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant against potential landslides in mountainous regions and the risks of drowning in floodwaters. The department has committed to sustaining its health response operations to ensure the well-being of evacuees while recovery efforts continue. Meanwhile, Typhoon Nando was last reported 540 km west of Basco, Batanes, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
