DOE Clarifies Rules on Fuel Sales in Fuel-Grade Drums or Containers

Manila: Purchase of fuel using fuel-grade drums or containers is allowed, but only for those with legitimate needs, such as for agriculture-related operations, hospitals, local governments, and telecommunications facilities, the Department of Energy (DOE) said Thursday. This announcement comes as the government seeks to ensure judicious use of the current fuel supply amid concerns about the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOE emphasized that consumers must ensure the oil supply they purchase is proportionate to their needs and that they adhere to applicable safety standards in fuel dispensing. The department has made it clear that any violations should be reported to the DOE through various channels, including its Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office, official Facebook page, Hotline 8888, and the eGovPH mobile app.

The DOE has partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to introduce the 'Gas Station Concerns' feature in the eGovPH app, enabling the public to report issues related to fuel stations. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin highlighted that this feature aims to enhance consumer protection and improve access to public assistance.

'Amid ongoing developments in the Middle East that continue to affect the global oil market, it is important that our people have clear, reliable, and accessible ways to raise their concerns. This partnership between the DOE and the DICT strengthens our ability to receive reports, respond more quickly, enforce existing rules, and protect consumers from unfair practices,' Garin stated.
