Tagaytay city: Civil society organizations (CSOs), religious groups, and the public will play an important role in ensuring that government projects are properly implemented and felt by Filipinos, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said Tuesday. Speaking at the National Social Action General Assembly (NASAGA) 2026, Dizon acknowledged the participation of these groups, which include the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) - Caritas, to ensure infrastructure undertakings are all accounted for.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon noted that the DPWH lacks the institutional capacity to monitor all projects effectively. He emphasized the necessity of assistance from the church, dioceses, and civil society groups at the local level to aid in monitoring these initiatives. The DPWH chief also urged the public to utilize the DPWH Transparency Portal to oversee ongoing projects.
Dizon highlighted the importance of public involvement in identifying pending, substandard, or ghost projects to enable the agency to take prompt action. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to promote transparency and citizen participation in government project implementation and monitoring. The emphasis on accountability comes as former DPWH officials and private individuals face multiple graft cases related to questionable flood control projects.
