DHSUD and Pag-IBIG Fund Launch Housing Fair to Combat Poverty

Calamba city: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Pag-IBIG Fund inaugurated a two-day housing fair on Monday, emphasizing affordable homeownership as a critical strategy for poverty alleviation and national progress. The event, taking place at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba City, Laguna, acts as a comprehensive hub for low- and middle-income individuals to examine housing options, liaise with certified developers, and manage housing loan applications on the spot.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling highlighted that providing access to decent and affordable housing is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty. He stated that owning a home is foundational for a more orderly and dignified life. Aliling noted that homeownership not only stabilizes a family's future but also enhances their chances of overcoming poverty.

He further mentioned that by bringing housing services directly to the people, the government aims to dismantle barriers that have historically hindered marginalized families from owning property. Aliling asserted that the housing fair embodies the Marcos administration's inclusive approach, which combines housing development with accessible financing to ensure no Filipino family is left behind.

The fair aims to tackle issues such as high financing costs, information gaps, and restricted access to affordable home loans. By offering the lowest monthly amortization rates, the initiative encourages families to shift from renting to owning homes. According to the DHSUD, this transition enables households to invest in long-term equity and allocate resources to other critical needs, including education, healthcare, and livelihood.

Furthermore, Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene Acosta acknowledged the robust partnership between the agencies in promoting the Marcos administration's Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
