DepEd Announces Four-Day Wellness Break for Teachers and Learners

Manila: Education Secretary Sonny Angara has declared a four-day wellness break for teachers and students from October 27 to 30, offering them a respite before the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day holidays. This initiative aims to support the well-being of both educators and learners.

According to Philippines News Agency, Angara emphasized that the break aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize the welfare of educators and learners while ensuring the continuation of quality education. In a Facebook post, Angara noted that the decision was made in response to appeals from teachers and students, particularly those impacted by recent natural disasters and health concerns.

Angara stated, “This is a time to rest, regain strength, and be with your families,” addressing the needs of those affected by typhoons, earthquakes, and flu. The declaration allows schools the flexibility to adjust their midyear In-Service Training (INSET) schedules, which can be moved after the break. Schools and divisions that have made arrangements for INSET can reschedule and repurpose their plans.

Rescheduled INSET and professional development programs should occur within the remaining days of School Year 2025-2026. If rescheduling is not feasible, attendance at INSET will be voluntary, and teachers who have already participated will not be required to attend similar activities again this school year. Regular classes are set to resume on November 3.
