Manila: The Department of Agriculture (DA) has introduced the Animal Management Information System (AMIS) and Livestock Registry System (LRS) as part of its efforts to modernize the animal industry and improve data-driven decision-making. These initiatives aim to strengthen the country's food security, production, and animal health, with full implementation expected by 2027.

According to Philippines News Agency, DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. emphasized the significance of the new systems in enhancing the agency's response capabilities for the animal industry. He noted that improved information and coordination would lead to faster problem detection, increased productivity, and better protection of livelihoods.

The AMIS is designed to be a comprehensive repository of data on various aspects of the animal industry, ranging from production and health to trade and government programs. It will facilitate the processing and analysis of data, providing valuable insights and tools for multiple stakeholders, including government officials, farmers, and researchers.

Meanwhile, the LRS will serve as a master list for beneficiaries of the Animal Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (AnCEF), with ongoing consultations planned with industry members, stakeholders, and local government units to ensure its effective development. The Bureau of Animal Industries (BAI) will oversee the administration of both systems.

The DA anticipates a more extensive rollout in 2027, featuring expanded datasets and enhanced analytics capabilities to better support decision-making processes.
