Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon vowed to focus on the opening and rehabilitation of roads as well as access to clean water systems in her province for the new administration's first 100 days in office.
In a press briefing Monday, Malanyaon said she wanted infrastructure projects to be implemented immediately.
“It (delays in the implementation of the projects) has brought hardship to the people, and there is a need that all equipment of the province be deployed immediately to areas where the roads are in a bad state,” the governor said.
Malanyaon also directed the General Services Office to conduct an inventory of the equipment and provide the municipalities with sets of equipment that would address the immediate concern of their rural areas.
“In my latest visits to the barangays and sitios, I found out that it would take them a half-day hike to be able to reach the town’s center, market, hospitals, or health centers,” she said.
Malanyaon said the provincial government will deploy the needed equipment to the municipalities for the continuous rehabilitation or opening of new roads to facilitate the mobility of people.
Aside from road rehabilitation, she said access to potable water is also a priority that she would focus on.
“We are lucky that we have accessed clean water. We should not be insensitive to this basic need that every human being deserves the most important thing in life – the access to a water system,” Malanyaon said.
In addition, the governor stressed the need for a stable power supply in the province and cited that she is open to studying the possibility of adopting new sources of energy – renewable and solar.
