Digos City: Police seized PHP19.1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested six suspects in a Digos City operation, the Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) reported Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the buy-bust operation over the weekend netted 478 master cases of cigarettes lacking required health warnings, PRO-11 Director Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete said in his report. The suspects were caught selling the contraband to an undercover officer. Authorities confiscated the cigarettes, marked money, a van, and a container van.
The Digos City Police Station conducted the raid with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit. “This implements CIDG’s Project Plan Mega Shopper against violations of the Graphic Health Warnings Law,” Rosete said, referring to Republic Act 10643.
“I commend our teams for this successful operation against smuggling,” Rosete said, lauding PRO-11’s anti-illegal trade campaign.
