Davao City Plans Expanded ‘Kape at Tsokolate’ Crawl in June

Davao city: The Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) is opening its doors to more local caf©s and chocolate shops as the Duaw Davao Kape ug Tsokolate Crawl returns this June. CTOO officer-in-charge Willenito Tormis Jr. announced that the month-long event has become an integral part of the Duaw Davao festivities, inviting tourists and residents to experience the city's local flavors.

According to Philippines News Agency, the event has been extended to include more establishments than in previous years. Tormis emphasized that the initiative aims to be more inclusive by allowing more small shops to participate, providing Dabawenyos and visitors with a broader range of options to explore. The crawl underscores Davao's recognition as the country's 'Chocolate Capital,' a title granted in 2021 when Republic Act 115471 designated the city and the entire Davao Region as the 'Cacao Capital of the Philippines.'

The legislation highlighted the significance of cacao in promoting rural development, increasing export opportunities, and supporting the livelihoods of small farmers. During the crawl, participants collect stickers at each coffee and chocolate shop they visit, with a prize available from the city government for completing the set. To participate, businesses must be locally owned and offer at least five coffee or chocolate drinks.

The executive committee will select at least 50 establishments through a raffle, ensuring they meet all necessary guidelines. Tormis noted that this expansion provides Dabawenyos and tourists with more opportunities to discover Davao's local flavors.
