Manila: Twenty-nine areas in the country will experience sweltering temperatures due to danger-level heat indices while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring rains across Mindanao, the weather bureau said Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity combines with air. A peak heat index of 45°C is forecast in Mu±oz, Nueva Ecija, as per the 5 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The following areas will also see danger-level heat indices: Laoag, Ilocos Norte with 42°C, Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 43°C, Batac, Ilocos Norte at 42°C, Bacnotan, La Union at 43°C, and Aparri, Cagayan at 42°C. Other areas include Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 43°C, Echague, Isabela at 43°C, Baler, Aurora at 42°C, Subic Bay, Olongapo City at 43°C, and Camiling, Tarlac at 42°C.
Further regions affected include Tayabas, Quezon with 42°C, Sangley Point, Cavite at 44°C, Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas at 43°C, Infanta, Quezon at 43°C, Mulanay, Quezon at 42°C, and Los Ba±os, Laguna at 42°C. In Palawan, Coron is expected to reach 43°C, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 44°C, Puerto Princesa City at 43°C, and Cuyo at 42°C.
In the Bicol and Visayas regions, Daet, Camarines Norte, and Masbate City, Masbate are both predicted to reach 42°C, while Legazpi City, Albay, and Pili, Camarines Sur will see 43°C. Meanwhile, Roxas City, Capiz, Iloilo City, Iloilo, and Dumangas, Iloilo are expected to experience 42°C, and Catarman, Northern Samar will also see 42°C.
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely under danger-level heat indices of 42°C to 51°C. Meanwhile, the ITCZ will continue to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over the whole of Mindanao. Flash floods or landslides may occur in the island during moderate to heavy rains, PAGASA warned.
The easterlies will also cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar and Southern Leyte. The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the archipelago.
