Caraga: The Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) announced Thursday that 92,726 women farmers have been registered under the agency’s Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), based on data provided on March 12.
According to Philippines News Agency, DA-13 highlighted the significance of these women farmers, especially during the celebration of Women’s Month. The department emphasized their crucial role in the development and management of agriculture within their communities. “The number of women farmers registered at the RSBSA signifies their active role in the management, care, and strengthening of agriculture in the region,” stated DA-13 in its report.
The report further revealed that many of these women farmers are involved in associations that have benefited from various livelihood programs and projects. By province, the registered women farmers include 19,145 in Agusan del Norte, 29,562 in Agusan del Sur, 15,830 in Surigao del Norte, 22,219 in Surigao del Sur, and 5,970 in Dinagat Islands. Overall, there are 469,892 farmers and fisherfolk, both men and women, registered under the RSBSA.
Among the successful initiatives supported by DA-13 is the Malipayon ug Maugwagong mag-uuma sa Mahayahay group in Barangay Mahayahay, Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte. This group, composed exclusively of women farmers registered under RSBSA, benefited from the Special Area for Agricultural Development program. They received 192 heads of ready-to-lay chickens, 110 bags of feed, and prefabricated cages. In 2025, the group began marketing eggs on Siargao Island, achieving approximately PHP550,702 in gross sales.
DA-13 continues to encourage women farmers in the region to register with the RSBSA through their respective municipal, city, or provincial agriculture offices.
