DA-Bicol Distributes Farm Inputs to Mayon Volcano Evacuees in Albay

Albay: The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) has taken steps to support evacuees affected by the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano in Tabaco City by distributing farm inputs.

According to Philippines News Agency, DA-5 spokesperson Lovella Guarin noted that farm inputs valued at PHP360,972 were delivered on January 28 to aid in setting up communal gardens in five evacuation centers in the city. This initiative is part of the High Value Crops Development Program and includes garden tools, laminated sacks, and vegetable seeds.

The DA-5 has also played a role in the evacuation and pooling of animals from areas within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone. Essential supplies such as drugs, biologics, animal feeds, as well as drums and ropes for animal evacuation centers, were provided. Records indicate that 583 animals have been relocated to safer locations, with animal pooling sites set up in Daraga, Guinobatan, Camalig, Legazpi City, and Ligao City.

The DA is actively coordinating with the Albay Provincial Veterinary Office, local government units, and farmers' cooperatives to address the requirements of farmers and livestock owners. Guarin encouraged farmers to liaise with their barangay officials and municipal or city veterinary offices to receive further assistance from DA-Bicol. Additionally, training sessions for women and farmers affected by the volcanic activity are planned to support the community.
