Currimao Suspends Festival Activities Amid National Energy Emergency

Currimao: The municipal government of Currimao has announced the suspension of several activities of the annual Dinaklisan Festival, which is traditionally held during the last week of April. This decision comes as a compliance measure with the national government's directive under Executive Order No. 110, which has declared a state of national energy emergency.

According to Philippines News Agency, the local government unit issued a public advisory on Friday stating that the suspended activities include the search for Miss Currimao, the street pageant, and the street dance showdown. "These events require extensive preparations, prolonged practice schedules, and significant use of electricity and other resources, thus, we have deemed it prudent to forego them at this time," the LGU mentioned in their statement.

Despite these cancellations, the municipal government has decided to proceed with certain traditional activities. The Tuno Festival, scheduled for April 30, alongside the thanksgiving Mass and fluvial parade on May 1, will continue as planned. These events are held in honor of the town's patron saint, Nuestra Se±ora de La Paz y Buen Viaje.

Vice Mayor Judith Quilala highlighted that the suspension of these activities is expected to save the local government unit approximately PHP1.5 million. Additionally, it will result in savings of about PHP3.4 million for the 23 villages and the Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council). Local officials have called on the public to focus on preparedness and the responsible use of resources during this challenging economic period.
