Cordillera readies for typhoon with food packs, non-food items

The Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) said about 65,318 family food packs and 25,381 non-food relief items are available once the need arises due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

In a situation report submitted to the Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) Wednesday afternoon, the DSWD-CAR said more than 60 percent of the relief items are pre-positioned in the municipalities across the region.

The humanitarian relief items include family packs, hygiene kits, blankets, shelter repair kits, tarpaulin and family shelter kits, it said.

The report also said there are 1,085 evacuation centers that are ready to accommodate residents in case they need to evacuate.

Based on the 5 p.m. bulletin of the state weather bureau, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, central portions of Abra, and Benguet, among other provinces, are under the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3.

Earlier in the day, the CDRRMC has ur
ged the local DRRMC to sustain a heightened alert status with the region in the list of areas that could be directly hit by Kristine.
