Metro manila: A recent five-day national trade fair organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at SM Megamall in Metro Manila resulted in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) generating PHP15.8 million in cash and booked sales, an official said Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DTI national trade fair, held from February 18 to 22, featured 51 Cordillera MSMEs. DTI-CAR Assistant Director Samuel Gallardo emphasized the importance of such events, stating, 'We make it a point to bring our micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) to join trade fairs so that they can market their produce and possibly get institutional buyers.'
The DTI-CAR highlighted that the bestsellers from the region included furniture and antique products from Banaue, Ifugao; woven fabric, wearables, and other apparel from the municipalities of La Paz and Penarrubia in Abra; and woodcraft and souvenirs from Baguio.
In addition to successful sales, a local MSME was recognized with first place in both the most innovative category and the most sustainable category among participants. The recognition underscores the quality and creativity of products from the region.
DTI-CAR actively encourages MSMEs to participate in trade fairs and supports their development through various training programs designed to strengthen small businesses at different stages.
