Baguio: The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Thursday emphasized the importance of farmers registering with the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), as the department continues discussions with stakeholders amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
According to Philippines News Agency, DA Assistant Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Logistics, Daniel Atayde, urged farmers to ensure their RSBSA registration during a dialogue with local farmers. He explained that being registered in the RSBSA is crucial for farmers to benefit from government programs and projects. The registry helps the government address agricultural needs by identifying specific activities, equipment, land areas, and commodities produced.
Atayde highlighted that registration simplifies the process of identifying beneficiaries for government support. He also responded to concerns from farmers about the technical skills and internet access required for registration, stating that assistance would be provided to unregistered farmers.
Engr. Danilo Daguio, the assistant regional director for operations at DA-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR), pointed out that while rice and corn farmers are typically registered, many high-value crop (HVC) farmers are not. He encouraged these producers to register to receive necessary aid, particularly during the current fuel crisis, which is impacting the agriculture sector.
The DA initiated dialogues with stakeholders in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on April 1, under the guidance of Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. The aim is to gather input on the support needed to maintain an uninterrupted food chain amid the Middle East conflict.
Despite assurances from attendees that there is no food shortage, they noted that rising fuel prices are increasing transport costs, negatively affecting farmers.
