Para±aque city: The police officer who fired indiscriminately at three minors in Para±aque City over firecracker use is facing criminal and administrative charges, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.
According to Philippines News Agency, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., stated that an investigation is ongoing and promised an aggressive response if the officer is found to have committed serious offenses. Nartatez emphasized the importance of police officers being role models of responsible gun ownership and good character within the community. He assured that any actions not conforming to the high standards expected of a police officer would be addressed.
Police reports indicate that the incident began with a confrontation between the officer and the minors, who were reportedly using firecrackers. During the confrontation, the officer is alleged to have drawn his issued 9mm firearm and fired shots in front of the minors.
