Manila: Cooler air and partly cloudy skies with light rain showers brought by the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will greet the expected millions of devotees joining the Feast of Black Nazarene in Quiapo for the Traslacion on Friday. In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that a significant portion of the country will continue to experience rains due to three prevailing weather systems.
According to Philippines News Agency, scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected across the Bicol Region and Northern Samar due to the shear line. The rest of Eastern Visayas will likewise experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to easterlies. The northeast monsoon will bring rains across Aurora, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon. Moderate to heavy rains in the aforementioned areas could result in flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, while the day is generally fair across Metro Manila, "amihan" will bring light rain showers-- an important reminder for the Hesus Nazareno devotees joining the procession to bring umbrellas and other rain gear. Light rain showers are also expected in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, the rest of Calabarzon, across Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon. The rest of the country will still experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
Strong winds and rough coastal waters are forecast in Northern Luzon. The rest of Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. As of 2 a.m., no low pressure area is being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, PAGASA said.
