Convergence of Services Benefit Iloilo Transport Sector

Iloilo: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 (Western Visayas) gathered partner national government agencies in the region for a two-phase high-impact, high-visibility inspection and service caravan for the transport sector on March 24-27. The first phase of the initiative on March 24-25 involved simultaneous labor inspections of various transport cooperatives in Iloilo aimed at enforcing labor standards.

According to Philippines News Agency, the initiative saw DOLE joining forces with several government agencies with regulatory functions to implement programs for workers in one setting. DOLE-6 Director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. highlighted the unprecedented nature of this collaboration in Region 6, involving agencies such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Department of Health (DOH), Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG, and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

The second phase of the initiative will focus on a service caravan and occupational safety and health standards, set to take place at the Vallacar Transit terminal and at the Mohon and Ungka terminals on March 27. LTO and LTFRB inspectors will check the compliance with licensing, registration, and roadworthiness of vehicles.

As part of the initiative, the DOH will offer health-related services, focusing on hypertension and diabetes, whereas SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG will provide services related to membership, benefits orientation, and assistance. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will also participate in the caravan to provide Internet connection and promote the eGovPH app.
