Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a final call for residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to register as voters. This appeal comes as the deadline approaches for voter registration for the upcoming September 14 BARMM polls and the November 2 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia emphasized the importance of participation in the electoral process, stating that this period offers a unique opportunity for residents to engage in both the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections and the BSKE. He urged residents to "be a part of the change" and ensure their voices are heard. Garcia also noted that there would be no further extension of the voter registration deadline.
The Commission's data indicates that since the registration period began on February 9, a total of 132,178 residents in the region have signed up to vote, with 66,759 males and 64,515 females completing their registration. The BARMM region includes Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Tawi-Tawi, and the Special Geographic Area.
