Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged political parties and sectoral organizations in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to re-register to participate in this year's Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections. This call impacts all previously accredited groups.
According to Philippines News Agency, George Garcia, the chairperson of the Commission on Elections, emphasized that all previous accreditations have been nullified due to Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 88. Consequently, Comelec is set to reopen the accreditation process, inviting both new applicants and those whose previous applications were denied.
The Commission has outlined a tentative schedule for the re-registration process. Regional Parliamentary Political Parties, which must have at least 5,000 registered BARMM voters, can submit their applications from March 17 to 20. These applications should be directed to the Bangsamoro Registration and Accreditation Committee. Returning political parties must file a Verified Manifestation, while new applicants are required to submit a Verified Petition for Registration.
Similarly, the re-registration window for Parliamentary Sectoral Organizations is set from March 16 to 23. These organizations must include the names of their three nominees in their applications. Previously denied and new PSOs need to file a Verified Petition for Registration, whereas those previously accredited must submit a Verified Manifestation in Lieu of Petition for Registration, ensuring compliance with the revised requirements.
