Comelec Targets 150,000 New Voters in BARMM by March End

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is aiming to register around 150,000 new voters in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by the conclusion of the voter registration period this month.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia noted the increasing number of registrants in the region as a factor contributing to the high voter turnout. "The number of voters in the Bangsamoro is increasing. There is a possibility that by March 31, we will reach 150,000 voters," he stated.

As of March 23, the commission has processed 94,120 applications: Lanao del Sur leads with 25,329, followed by Maguindanao del Norte with 20,579, Maguindanao del Sur with 15,396, Basilan with 13,047, Tawi-Tawi with 10,461, and the Special Geographic Area with 9,308. The voter registration in BARMM commenced on February 9 and is set to continue until March 31.

On a national scale, Comelec reported a total of 3,356,106 applications processed. Female applicants are ahead with 1,743,099, while male applicants total 1,613,007. Region IV-A (Calabarzon) boasts the highest number of processed applications at 561,829, followed by Region III (Central Luzon) with 388,393, and the National Capital Region with 344,214. Meanwhile, the Cordillera Administrative Region has the least, with 46,611 applications processed.

The nationwide voter registration resumed on October 20, 2025, and will continue until May 18, 2026, as preparations are underway for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled for November 2, 2026.
