Comelec Plans Technology Fair to Explore New Election Systems

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is preparing to host a technology fair early next year to explore the latest automated election systems (AES) available in the market. This initiative aims to gain insights into the newest technologies for conducting electoral processes.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco emphasized the importance of this event in a public briefing. He stated, "As early as next year, you will see that the Comelec will conduct a more in-depth research where we will have a technology fair again." This effort is part of Comelec's strategy to understand advancements in election technology.

The focus of the fair will be on systems that are user-friendly, capable of producing accurate results, and easily auditable. Laudiangco explained, "(The) technology must not be complicated. To make the process easy, it must be safe, it must be accurate and above all, easy to audit and understand by our countrymen." He further added that Comelec is committed to enhancing efforts in auditing capability, accuracy, transparency, and public participation throughout the election process.

In the previous May 2025 elections, Comelec utilized automated counting machines from Miru Systems, a Korean-based company. The last AES Technology Fair, held in 2019 in collaboration with the Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT) and the Comelec Advisory Council (CAC), featured participation from several technology providers.
