Comelec Announces Resumption of Voters’ Registration from August 1

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced the resumption of voters’ registration across the nation, set to begin this Friday. This initiative is particularly aimed at accommodating first-time registrants and will extend over a period of ten days.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia, during a virtual meeting, stated that the election-related activities would be conducted not only in local Comelec offices but also in selected public and private establishments. This move is designed to increase accessibility for more Filipinos wishing to register. Garcia emphasized that all Offices of Elections Officer are prepared to accept various applications, including those for new voters.

In addition to voter registration, the Comelec will also process applications for changes in name and status, correction of entries, reactivation of registration records, and other updates. This includes updating records for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and members of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Cultural Communities. Online applications will be accepted for several reactivation processes as well.

Garcia also mentioned plans to introduce a Register Anytime Program, which would allow registration from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with registration booths potentially being set up at airports. Furthermore, the Register Anywhere Program will be implemented in malls, bus terminals, and other busy locations, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, applications for these programs will only be accepted until August 7.

The 10-day registration period is linked to the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). Garcia noted that if the December 1 BSKE is postponed, the registration activities could continue beyond August 10, potentially extending until July 2026. The decision to suspend the BSKE is pending the approval of President Fernando R. Marcos Jr. If approved, the elections will be rescheduled to the first Monday of November 2026.
