Close to 1.2M Residents Evacuate as Super Typhoon Uwan Batters Luzon

Manila: Preemptive evacuations continue as Super Typhoon Uwan, known internationally as Fung-wong, lashes Luzon and nearby islands, with the total number of evacuated families now reaching 344,413, or 1,179,086 individuals.

According to Philippines News Agency, the figure was recorded as of 4:16 p.m. Sunday, stated by Office of Civil Defense deputy administrator for administration, Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, during an online press briefing.

The evacuees are from Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), National Capital Region, Region 5 (Bicol), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Region 8 (Eastern Visayas), and the Negros Island Region.

Alejandro also reported that Region 5 has recorded one casualty allegedly linked to the typhoon, which is still under validation. Meanwhile, all provinces in the Bicol Region except Sorsogon have experienced power outages as of 3 p.m., and intermittent telecommunication signals are affecting the region.
