Manila: The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is advocating for the establishment of a National Anti-Scam Hub (NASH) to function as a centralized complaint center for victims of fraud and online scams. The initiative seeks to simplify the reporting process for the public and enhance coordination among government agencies addressing these cases.
According to Philippines News Agency, CICC Executive Director Undersecretary Renato 'Aboy' Paraiso revealed in a Bagong Pilipinas interview that the proposed hub would be led by the Office of the Executive Secretary. The goal is to provide a single platform for citizens to report scams, ensuring that government agencies can efficiently communicate and manage these reports.
Paraiso highlighted the current confusion among the public due to multiple reporting channels. The plan is to integrate and streamline government processes, creating a unified system where complaints can be effectively addressed and resolved. Besides the Office of the Executive Secretary and the CICC, the initiative involves the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), the Bureau for Transnational Crime, and other law enforcement agencies.
Under the proposed setup, these agencies would operate under a single system, facilitating quick case endorsements to the appropriate office. The CICC would focus on detection and reporting, while law enforcement agencies would be responsible for investigations and enforcement actions. Paraiso emphasized that the streamlined system is expected to reduce response times to complaints significantly.
He also noted the prevalence of scams involving digital platforms and communications technology. Additionally, Paraiso mentioned a partnership with South Korea to establish a National Cybersecurity Operations Center (NSOC). This collaboration aims to secure the Philippines' government digital infrastructure and strengthen defenses against cyber threats.
