Manila: The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Tuesday called for all dioceses and archdioceses across the nation to hold prayer vigils for world peace on April 11, following the appeal made by Pope Leo XIV.
According to Philippines News Agency, the CBCP president, Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, emphasized the importance of this initiative in Circular No. 26-04, urging dioceses to organize the prayer vigils at any convenient time of the day. The aim is to enable the faithful to spiritually unite with this global movement. Archbishop Garcera expressed hope for a positive response to this urgent call to prayer.
In addition to dioceses, the Lipa archbishop requested the participation of parishes and other religious institutions under the bishops' and archbishops' jurisdiction. This effort seeks to enhance ecclesial unity and intercession across the country. Garcera encouraged broad involvement from all parishes, religious communities, and lay faithful within each diocese.
The archbishop outlined that the prayer activities might include forms such as Eucharistic adoration, the Holy Rosary, the celebration of the Holy Mass for peace, or other suitable liturgical or devotional gatherings. He noted that this collective act of prayer would not only express solidarity with the Holy Father but also embody the shared hope for true peace, which is rooted in Christ, to prevail globally and within individual hearts.
This call to prayer aligns with Pope Leo XIV's announcement to lead a prayer vigil for world peace on Saturday at Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, as part of the Easter Sunday celebrations.
