Caraga: Police in the Caraga Region have reported a significant decline in holiday-related injuries and the usage of illegal firecrackers, as they destroyed confiscated banned firecrackers valued at PHP30,720. This development marks a positive outcome from the intensified “Ligtas Paskuhan” inspections conducted in December.
According to Philippine News Agency, the destruction was led by PRO-13 director Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, who oversaw the disposal of 469 pieces and two boxes of firecrackers. These were seized as part of the proactive measures to monitor and control the sale and display of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in the region. The efforts align with the Philippine National Police’s “Ligtas Paskuhan 2025” initiative.
Maj. Jennifer Omiter, PRO-13 information chief, highlighted that the campaigns were effective in reducing the volume of illegal firecrackers, contributing to a generally peaceful holiday season. The Department of Health in Caraga corroborated this by reporting only four firecracker-related injuries from December 1 to January 5, a notable decrease from 13 injuries recorded the previous year.
Additionally, Omiter provided updates on legal proceedings involving a police officer and a civilian arrested in December for the illegal discharge of firearms. She confirmed that the police officer has already filed for bail after criminal charges were formally filed in court.
