Caraga PNP rounds up 41 ‘abusers’ of women, children’s rights

Police arrested last month 41 individuals wanted for violating laws on women and children’s rights, the Police Regional Office – Caraga (PRO-13) reported Wednesday.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., the PRO-13 director, said the arrests were made during the series of Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) conducted last month.

Of the arrested persons, 18 were charged for violating the provisions of RA 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, while 11 were charged under RA 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

Meanwhile, a dozen suspects were charged for the violation of RA 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004. They were arrested last month by operatives of the PRO-13’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).

“The establishment of WCPD is to specifically administer and attend to cases involving crimes against chastity, sexual harassment, abuse of women and children, and other similar offenses,” Caramat said.

“The PRO-13 continuously protects women and children against violence and assistance whenever they undergo difficult situations,” he added.
