Butuan city: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Caraga Region (PDEA-13), alongside partner agencies, initiated Oplan Harabas to ensure the safety of travelers as the summer vacation and Holy Week begin, officials stated.
According to Philippines News Agency, the activity was conducted in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the city government of Butuan, and the Philippine National Police (PNP). A drug test was administered among drivers and conductors at the Langihan Bus Terminal in Butuan City to safeguard the traveling public.
PDEA-13 reported that all participants, including 27 bus drivers and 23 conductors, tested negative for illegal drugs. Additionally, 12 bus drivers, 10 conductors, 11 public utility drivers, eight taxi drivers, and nine bao-bao drivers also showed negative results for illegal drug use.
PDEA-13 Regional Director Laurefel Gabales emphasized the government's proactive approach in ensuring the safety and security of the commuting public, particularly as travelers prepare to return to their home provinces for Holy Week observances. By confirming that drivers and transport personnel are drug-free, authorities aim to prevent road accidents and promote responsible public transport operations.
