Manila: Marian Capadocia eliminated fourth seed Kaye Ann Emana, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, Tuesday to reach the round-of-16 in the Philta Women's National Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Malate, Manila. Capadocia, playing in her first tournament after giving birth, will face Yuki Madrio, who defeated No. 14 Amelia Baulite, 6-4, 6-0.
According to Philippines News Agency, Capadocia expressed her joy in returning to competitive play, noting the additional motivation from her baby watching her matches. Capadocia previously secured a record 10 singles titles at the 2024 Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open.
Philippine Tennis Academy representatives Tennielle Madis and Stefi Marithe Aludo also progressed to the next round of the event, which is supported by Tecnifibre and the Philippine Sports Commission. The top-seeded Madis dominated Avemaria Policarpio, 6-0, 6-0, setting up a third-round match against No. 15 Bea Gomez, who defeated May Bautista, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 2 seed Aludo overpowered Althea Azures, 6-0, 6-0, and will face No. 13 seed Mekaela Vicencio, victor over Mary Basas, 6-1, 6-1. Other notable performances included third seed Tiffany Nocos, fifth seed Angeline Alcala, sixth seed Elizabeth Abarquez, No. 7 Mica Emana, and No. 8 Althea Faye Ong, who all advanced in their respective matches.
Nocos defeated Dyeinah Olalo, 6-1, 6-0, and will meet No. 16 Lourianne Jallorina, who won against Mary Natano, 6-4, 6-4. Alcala rallied past Kaye Muztaza, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, to face No. 10 Jayden Ballado, who overcame Sophia Opoc, 6-1, 6-0.
Abarquez bested Shiloh Cruz, 6-1, 6-1, and will compete against Paula Ysabelle Uy, who defeated Nealen Ras, 6-1, 6-2. Emana conquered Khalila Imalay, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to face No. 11 Annika Diwa, who won against Remedios Del, 6-1, 6-2. Ong cruised past Geryline Reside, 6-0, 6-0, and will meet Joana Pe±a, who blanked Ava Banson, 6-0, 6-0.
